Friday 20th October // Hobart Brewing Company

Professor Elaine Stratford’s work is motivated by trying to understand the conditions in which people flourish in place, in their movements, in daily life, and over the life-course. She is a member of the University of Tasmania’s College of Arts and Law’s Institute for the Study of Social Change and specialises in studies of the mobile and place-based geographies of children and young people, particularly in island places. Between 2015 and 2017, Stratford started this line of inquiry as the inaugural Director of the Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment, and before that was a member of the then School of Geography and Environmental Studies, including as Head of School from 2005 to 2013.
